Captain V'Rel

Captain V'Rel was a female Vulcan who was in command of the USS Farragut in 2261. She was known to be very risk averse and favoured a very "by the book" command style. Much to the chagrin of her first officer, at the time, James T. Kirk. [1]

During a survey mission to Helicon Gamma she refused Kirk's request to send an away team to the planet due to geological instabilities. Moments later the planet was destroyed by a powerful gravitational beam from a massive alien ship. Fragments of the planet hit the Farragut and V'Rel suffered a cranial contusion. Kirk grew a greater appreciation of the Captain after this as his life, and that of others, were saved by her reserved approach. [1]

Kirk, now acting Captain, called in assistance from near by ships. The USS Enterprise responded and Captain V'Rel was beamed aboard for an emergency craniectomy. Unfortunately that meant she was abroad when the Enterprise was captured by the alien ship. Once the situation was resolved V'Rel made a full recovery. [1]

Once the USS Farragut was fully repaired V'Rel allowed Kirk to go to the assistance of the USS Enterprise at the planet Skygowen. There Kirk and Spock performed a mind meld in order to control both ships in synchronicity. They were then able to use the phasers to power a gateway on the planet without destroying it. [2]
