A captain in the Vulcan Defence Force, Vanik was a typical 22nd century Vulcan - rude, abrasive, arrogant in the extreme and highly intolerant of other cultures. He observed the NX-01's investigation of a comet in 2151, and lent assistance when one of the ship's shuttlepods became trapped on the surface. [1]
