Alvarez was a Human female starfleet officer who served as a science officer on the USS Farragut in 2261. During a survey mission to Helicon Gamma the ship was badly damaged by an alien scavenger, which also destroyed the planet. She remained part of the skeleton crew that battled the scavenger in order to rescue the USS Enterprise. [1]When things seemed to get on top of Kirk she was able to let the Enterprise officers know that he had not been placed in command for such a long period of time before. Spock was able to talk to Kirk and enable him to rally and come up with a good solution. [1]
