A farmer from the United States during Earth's 20th century, Hayes was abducted by aliens in 1937 and transported to a planet in the Delta Quadrant. He was kept in suspended animation until 2371, when he was woken by Captain Janeway. Although initially startled, Hayes managed to adapt to his new surroundings and managed to settle on the planet.
