Apprentice to the Sirah of a Bajoran village, Hovath expected to be named as the successor to the post when the Sirah died in 2369. When the role passed instead to O'Brien, Hovath was consumed with jealousy. He managed to overcome this when O'Brien explained that he had no interest in the job, and despite some difficulties Hovath managed to successfully assume the role of Sirah. [1]
