La'An Noonien-Singh

NotesImagesTimelineQuotes
Universe : Prime Timeline
Name : La'An Noonien-Singh [1]
Species : Humans

Human female decendant of Kharn Noonien-Singh, although not genetically augmented herself. She was the sole survivor of a Gorn attack which resulted in the loss of her entire family. She was born on 8th December 2228 on Alpha I. Daughter to Sa'An and Ronu Noonien-Singh. She had one older brother named Manu. [1]

La'An and her family were traveling on the colony vessel SS Puget Sound, when it was captured by the Gorn. The survivors of the attack were left on a Gorn breading planet to be used as food or a host for breading new Gorn. La'An and Manu survived longer than most, largely due to Manu's stealth and observational skills. When only the two of them survived Menu sacrificed himself to allow her to live. La'An as the "last man standing" was placed on a raft and set adrift in space, which was part of the Gorn traditions. There she was rescued by the USS Martin Luther King Jr. Una-Chin Riley was a member of the ships crew. The two have been good friends since. [2]

Una sponsored La'An's application to Starfleet academy where she graduated at the top of her class. Following her commission she was promoted each year during her tenure. [3]

La'An was assigned to the USS Enterprise in 2259 as acting first officer when Una disappeared. Investigating the disappearance, the ship travelled to Kiley 279 a pre-warp civilisation that was showing signs of having developed a weapon of mass destruction based on a warp drive they had witnessed in space near their planet. La'An joined an away team to the planet disguised as Kiley, in order to obey the prime directive. Having successfully rescued Una, La'An was given a permanent position as Head of Security. [1]

When La'An and the rest of the crew were infected with a "light virus", that saw them craving light of every increasing intensity, she nearly caused a warp core breach when she attempted to throw herself into the warp core. Una Chin-Riley revealed herself to be an Illyrian and Capel was able to use her special antibodies in order to cure the crew. [4]

During a resupply mission La'An was the first to realise that the system was under attack by the Gorn. The Enterprise his in a brown dwarf star, which was orbiting a black hole. La'An and Spock performed a mind meld and helped retrieve information about Gorn ship to ship commissions using light that helped them escape the Gorn. [2]

La'An came face to face with the Gorn once again when she was part of an away team that beamed down to assess a crashed federation ship, the USS Peregrine. La'An was once again able to use her skills and memories of childhood to overcome the threat and rid the ship of the Gorn. The ship was towed into orbit and ultimately repaired. La'An saved a young child. [5]

She then took a leave of absence to reunite her with her parents. In the process she discovered a plot by the Klingons to cause a false flag operation on their own ships to blame the Federation and kickstart the war all over again. La'An summoned the Enterprise to uncover the plot and rescue the peace accords. La'An returned to her duties on the Enterprise. [6]

During one of her security rounds she came across a stranger on the ship who appeared to have been shot with a bullet. He handed her a device and told her to get to the bridge, before he died and vanished. On visiting the bridge she found out that she was on a different ship with a new captain. Assuming that an event in the past had caused a modified timeline she attempted to inform the new captain, James T. Kirk. When he inspected the device he accidentally activated it and transported both of them to 2022, Toronto. [7]

Assuming that this was the location of the event that caused the change Kirk and La'An worked together attempt to repair the change. They eventually work out that an exploding cold fusion reactor destroying Toronto was the event that changed history. They meet up with the version of Pelia of this time period and together devise a way of tracking the reactor. There thay discover a human conspiracy theorist they had met earlier. Discovering that she was actually a Romulan agent they fight and she is killed. La'An discovered a young version of Khan Noonien Singh, La'An is able to save his life and restore the preferred timeline. [7]

In 2260 the Enterprise once more encountered the Gorn, this time at a colony on Parnassus Beta, where they kidnapped the colonists and put them aboard their ship. The crew of the USS Cayuga and landing party from USS Enterprise were also captured. A small group remained on the planet in hiding using a device that Mr Scott, a Starfleet engineer who had got cause up in the issue had produced. [8]

On board the Gorn ship, La'An used her experience to scape a digestion pod and was able to free several other members of the Enterprise crew. The team worked together under La'An's guidance to steal the transporter codes for the Gorn ship and a Hunter class ship, which they escaped on board. Having successfully returned to the Enterprise they beamed off the surviving colonists and crew. They also figured out a way to send the Gorn into long term hibernation. [9]

Several months later Spock started taking dancing lessons from La'An, who had taken dance lessons as a child. [10]

Some time later the Enterprise was called to assist a pre-warp civilisation by repairing a nuclear generator the Vulcans had given them before the foundation of the Federation. In order to do this without violating the prime directive the away team had to turn themselves into Vulcans. Captain Pike, La'An, Uhura and Chapel all volunteered for the process. Work on the reactor took a mater of moments and they returned to the ship. Attempts to return them to human form failed, meaning that they were stuck as Vulcans until a solution could be found. La'An used her extended time as a Vulcan to attempt to upgrade the shields and weapons of the Enterprise in order that she could start a war against several other races. Fortunately, before her plans came to fruition, they were able to change the four of them back to Human form. [11]
