A Doctor, Mercer worked for John Frederick Paxton in 2155 during his attempt to blackmail Earth's government into severing ties with alien species. He looked after the Human/Vulcan hybrid that Paxton had ordered created. Mercer was killed, apparently by a cave-in in one of Paxton's mines. Paxton almost certainly had Mercer murdered. [1]
