A classmate of Dr. Bashir, Lense beat him to the Valedictorian spot thanks to a mistake he made on the final exam. Bashir nursed a feeling of inferiority to Lense for some years, but when she visited Deep Space Nine in 2371 as Chief Medical Officer of the USS Lexington he came to realise that she was actually a little jealous of his own position.
