Laris was a Romulan female. She was a close friend of Admiral Picard and worked on his winery during his retirement. [1] She was an ex-member of the Tal Shiar. She once admitted that her first handler, Zhaban's mother, had once told her of an organisation called the Zhat Vash, who were the true organisation behind the Tal Shiar. [2] Laris helped Zhaban and Picard fight off a Romulan assassination squad who invaded Picard's chateau. [3] Laris had the typical pointed ears and tilted eyebrows of a Romulan, but lacked the prominent brow ridges that are common on northern Romulans. [3] Laris also had a marked Irish accent, [1] which was due to her learning English from a native of Ireland.
Laris and Zhaban were husband and wife until he passed away in the 2400. [4] In the 18 months since Zhaban's death, Laris developed feelings for Picard, but, Picard initially rejected her advances. [5] After the events in 2024 made Jean-Luc more amenable to romantic relationships, he asked Laris for a second chance, to which she agreed. [6]
