Dana Gamble temporarily jointed the USS Enterprise in 2261 while Christine Chapel was away on a fellowship with Roger Korby. When Christine returned, Doctor M'Benga was able to tell him he had a permanent placement on the ship. [1]

Later that year Gamble requested to go on an away mission. Eventually, he was chosen to accompany a mission to the planet Vadia IX. There he visited an archaeological site with Roger Korby and a group from the USS Enterprise. At the site Gamble found an orb, which he picked up. Moments later the orb exploded and a non-corporal entity. It attacked Gamble and killed him, possessing his body. [2]
