In 2372, Tuvok designed and constructed a new beam weapon. It had an energy signature that was formulated to break down a critical enzyme in a Nacene life form. In doing so it would temporarily disable the target life form. Voyager reluctantly had to use it to defend against Susperia, the Caretaker's partner, when she attempted to destroy the ship. [1]
